Modernizing Outdated Bathrooms and Historic Inns: Design and Energy Upgrade Trends

Outdated bathroom interiors often give a home a dated appearance. Current design trends favor light, natural tones, unified surfaces, larger tiles with minimal grout, layered lighting, concealed storage, ergonomic layouts, and natural materials to create a fresher, more spacious feel.

Similarly, historic inns face high operating costs due to inefficient windows, heating systems, and temperature control. Energy‑renovation should begin with a detailed assessment of the building’s energy use, insulation, airtightness, façade, and shading. Upgrading insulation, windows, and mechanical systems in a phased approach can improve guest comfort while reducing energy expenses and preventing issues such as moisture or mold.
