Modi and Trump Meet at G7 Summit, Emphasize Trade and Security Ties
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump held a face‑to‑face meeting at the G7 summit in Avignon, France – their first in 16 months. During a 19‑minute joint press conference they discussed trade, defence, security and regional challenges, including the Gulf of Oman attack that killed three Indian sailors and the safety of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump praised Modi as a “strong negotiator” and said a trade agreement was close to completion, while pledging a future visit to India. Modi highlighted India’s growing global role and defended its interests.
BJP senior leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi echoed the praise, linking the meeting to India’s robust economy, yoga promotion and the country’s steady governance. He dismissed criticism of the leaders and reaffirmed the BJP’s stance as a unifying rather than dividing force.
The encounter underscored the strengthening India‑U.S. partnership across economic and security domains, with both leaders stressing personal chemistry and mutual respect.
