Modi and Trump meet at G7 summit in France, praise US‑Iran peace step
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald J. Trump met in person at the G7 summit in Avignon, France, their first face‑to‑face encounter in 16 months. During the meeting both leaders commended the United States’ decision to end the conflict with Iran and highlighted its importance for regional stability.
They also discussed safeguarding navigation freedom in the Hormuz Strait, deepening defence, technology and energy cooperation, and accelerating a pending bilateral trade agreement. The U.S. trade envoy James Greer is slated to visit India next week to advance the India‑U.S. partnership.
The gathering underscored a broader strategic alignment among the United States, India and other G7 allies as they seek to consolidate peace and economic ties across West Asia.
