Modica administration faces criticism over urban projects and planning

The municipal administration of Modica is facing criticism regarding urban management and strategic planning. Local councilor Elena Frasca has raised concerns about the former fruit and vegetable market on Viale Medaglie D’Oro. Despite works funded by the PNRR appearing complete, the area remains inaccessible to the public. Issues cited include neglected vegetation, excessive external lighting causing potential light pollution, and irregularities regarding the installation and removal of playground paving.

Additionally, the political group Sinistra Italiana Modica, represented by Vito D’Antona, has criticized the Mayor for a lack of long-term strategic vision. Key points of contention include the abandonment of the historic center, disorganized expansion in the Sacro Cuore district, and the absence of a new General Urban Plan. The opposition also highlighted delays in addressing the city's financial instability and the closure of important public facilities.
