Modica faces tax relief delays and ChocoModica postponement

The city of Modica is facing local administrative and organizational challenges. The political committee ‘L’Alternativa Socialista Modica’ has called on the municipal administration to provide clear instructions regarding the ‘Rottamazione Quinquies’ program. This measure, approved by the City Council in July, allows for the settlement of local tax debts incurred between 2019 and 2025, offering relief on sanctions and interest. Currently, citizens report a lack of operational guidance on how to access the program, even as tax credit assessments continue.

Separately, the ChocoModica event has been postponed to 2027. Pierpaolo Ruta, owner of Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, criticized the uncertainty surrounding the event's organization, noting that late decisions harm the tourism sector's ability to plan. Ruta also highlighted a lack of serious dialogue between local stakeholders and emphasized the need for Modica to establish itself as an international hub for cocoa and chocolate culture.
