Modigliana to host major Silvestro Lega exhibition

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Silvestro Lega, the town of Modigliana will host a major exhibition titled ‘Silvestro Lega. La causa della Patria, la causa dell’Arte’ from September 12 to December 13, 2026. The exhibition, held at the Pinacoteca Comunale in Palazzo Pretorio, will feature over forty works from both public and private collections.

Curated by Gianfranco Brunelli and Elisabetta Matteucci, the show explores the connection between Lega’s artistic evolution and the ideals of the Risorgimento. As a prominent figure of the Macchiaioli movement, Lega’s work is characterized by a search for the ‘truth’ in painting, often intertwining his artistic innovation with his personal involvement in the political movements of 1848.
