MoDOT announces major infrastructure projects in Missouri
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced significant construction projects affecting major corridors in the state.
In St. Louis, a section of eastbound Interstate 64 (Highway 40) between Vandeventer Avenue and Compton Avenue is scheduled to close for approximately one year, starting in fall 2027. The project aims to replace an aging elevated bridge over Vandeventer Avenue that has reached the end of its useful life, alongside redesigning the Grand Boulevard interchange. While the eastbound closure is expected to last until fall 2028, broader construction in the Midtown corridor is slated to continue through late 2029.
Separately, as part of the Improve I-70 Project, the Highway 54 overpass in Kingdom City will close at the end of October. Crews will demolish two decommissioned bridges to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of I-70 and Highway 54. During the demolition period, I-70 will be reduced to one lane in both directions, and Highway 54 traffic will be subject to detours via I-70 and local Callaway County routes.
