Dakar Dem Dikk appoints Modou Bara Gaye as Director General

Modou Bara Gaye has officially assumed the role of Director General of the Senegalese national transport company, Dakar Dem Dikk. His appointment was proposed by the Minister of Land and Air Transport, Lahat Ndiaye, and ratified by a decree from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Gaye’s mandate is aligned with the ‘Vision Sénégal 2050’ initiative, specifically focusing on creating an integrated multimodal transport system. Key objectives include the full integration of Dakar Dem Dikk with the TER and BRT networks, improving connectivity for newly urbanized areas, and implementing digital solutions such as mobile payments and real-time passenger information with an emphasis on cybersecurity. The leadership is also preparing for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

Reports indicate that the transition of power was marked by tension. During the installation ceremony, clashes reportedly broke out between supporters of the new director and members of the Kiiraay movement, amid political rivalries regarding the management of the state-owned enterprise.
