Moel Famau utilizes Belted Galloway cattle for habitat conservation

Belted Galloway cattle have returned to Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range to assist in habitat conservation. This initiative is a partnership between Natural Resources Wales and the National Landscape, utilizing traditional conservation grazing methods to manage the moorland.

The cattle play a vital role in boosting biodiversity by grazing on plants and small trees, which prevents scrub from overtaking the landscape. Their hooves also help break up dense vegetation, creating microhabitats for various wildlife. This management style is intended to support species such as the nightjar, skylark, and the Black Grouse, which is one of the fastest-declining birds in the United Kingdom.
