Moengo stabbing incident results in death of 16-year-old
A 16-year-old boy, identified as R. D., died following a stabbing incident near Julianaveld in Moengo, Marowijne district, on August 30, 2026. The victim was reportedly stabbed in the chest with a sharp object during a physical altercation.
Preliminary investigations by the Korps Politie Suriname indicate that the suspect, a 15-year-old identified as V. P., had been involved in a prior conflict with the victim. Although police had previously mediated between the two and issued warnings, the individuals encountered each other again, leading to a verbal dispute that escalated into violence.
Bystanders apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police. The victim was rushed to the nearby RGD clinic, but medical staff confirmed he showed no signs of life upon arrival. Following coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect has been detained and placed in the Opa Doeli Youth Transition Center while the Regional East Detective Department continues its investigation.
