Moerdijk municipality postpones decisions on Powerport and offshore wind landing projects

The Moerdijk council said a definitive decision on the future of the Powerport development will not be made in the near term, with the timeline described as "weeks and months." The government will continue work on a third scenario that aims for an integrated area‑development plan extending to 2050, while also providing social and financial support for residents affected by the process.

At the same time, the municipality expressed serious concerns about the planned offshore wind‑energy landing (VAWOZ). No final location has been approved, the public information meeting was moved to 30 June and the deadline for submitting comments is 2 July 2026. The council argues that the proposed site at Gorsdijk and related converter‑station facilities could threaten agricultural land and that uncertainties about future cable routes, possible nuclear expansion in Zeeland, and the overall system integration have not been adequately addressed. The council calls for transparent participation and clear information for residents.

Both issues are pending further study and stakeholder engagement before any binding decisions are taken.
