Moeve and Emerita Resources sign Spain's first renewable diesel mining deal

Moeve and Emerita Resources have signed an agreement to deploy 100% renewable diesel (HVO) at an industrial scale within the Spanish mining sector. This marks the first agreement of its kind in Spain for the industry.

The biofuel, classified as a 2G biofuel, will be produced at Moeve's facilities in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. It is intended for use in the Iberian Belt West (IBW) project, located in the Huelva province between Puebla de Guzmán and Paymogo. The diesel will power heavy machinery used for both the construction and operation of the mining complex, as well as the heavy transport of mineral concentrates.

This 2G biofuel is compatible with existing engines and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% throughout its life cycle compared to traditional diesel. The implementation is estimated to prevent approximately 2,600 tons of CO2 emissions annually, a reduction comparable to the annual absorption capacity of 170,000 trees.
