Mogi das Cruzes reports 58% drop in vehicle robberies
Vehicle robberies in Mogi das Cruzes fell by 58% in July compared to the same period last year, according to data from the State Public Security Secretariat. The number of recorded robberies dropped from 24 occurrences in July 2025 to 10 in July 2026.
Vehicle thefts also saw a decrease of 17.8%, dropping from 45 incidents last year to 37 this year. Municipal Security Secretary Gilberto Ito attributed these trends to technological investments, increased support for the Municipal Civil Guard, and improved integration with Military and Civil Police forces.
A key component of this strategy is the ‘Smart Mogi’ program, which utilizes 730 installed cameras, including 260 facial recognition units and others for license plate reading and monitoring. The program has assisted in capturing nearly 200 fugitives wanted for various crimes, including robbery, drug trafficking, and homicide.
