Mohamad Sabu questions BN loyalty within Malaysia's Unity Government

Mohamad Sabu, President of Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH), has raised concerns regarding the political commitment and loyalty of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) within Malaysia’s Unity Government. He argued that political partnerships require mutual trust and two-way commitment, noting that AMANAH and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have demonstrated a willingness to compromise since the government's formation in 2022.

Mohamad cited specific instances to illustrate his concerns, including the Johor state elections where BN and PH competed for all 56 seats despite expectations of seat negotiations. He specifically questioned the actions of BN Johor leadership in welcoming support from PAS supporters to defeat government coalition candidates. He also referenced political instability in Negeri Sembilan following UMNO's withdrawal of support for the Menteri Besar.

Reflecting on the ‘Sheraton Move,’ Mohamad emphasized that a government is built on trust rather than just the number of seats held. He warned that if trust is lost, even a significant majority can fracture, describing the betrayal of political partners as a painful lesson that should not be repeated for the sake of strategy.
