Mohamad Sabu to sue netizens over fertilizer corruption claims

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu has instructed lawyers to issue letters of demand to social media users accused of making baseless and defamatory allegations against him. The legal action follows online claims suggesting he avoided accountability in a corruption investigation involving fertilizer supply delays in Kedah.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is currently investigating a shortfall in fertilizer distribution for approximately 60,000 paddy farmers in the Muda Agricultural Development Authority region. Reports indicate that out of 616,015 bags required for the 2026 season, only 333,655 bags were supplied by an appointed firm. While a managing director is currently under remand, the MACC noted that the minister and his ministry’s secretary-general could be summoned to assist with the probe.

In response to the situation, Mohamad Sabu has ordered all agencies under his ministry to strengthen governance, transparency, and integrity in procurement and the use of public funds to prevent future management weaknesses.
