Mohamed Abdennabi emphasizes role of lawyers in judicial system

During the 70th International Lawyers Association conference in Marrakech, Mohamed Abdennabi, First President of the Court of Cassation and President of the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power, described legal bodies as indispensable partners in the justice system. He characterized the legal profession as the ‘conscience of the law and the voice of rights and freedoms,’ rather than a merely technical practice.

Abdennabi called for enhanced cooperation between judicial institutions and lawyers through permanent consultation mechanisms at both central and regional levels. He highlighted the necessity of digital transformation, specifically the development of electronic exchange systems between courts and lawyers, and the implementation of electronic litigation and notification to modernize judicial administration.

Addressing modern challenges, he noted the importance of legal specialization in areas such as major sporting events, international trade, and sustainable development. He also emphasized Morocco’s role in international arbitration and its integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area, noting that specialized commercial courts and modern arbitration laws support economic actors and bolster the kingdom’s attractiveness as a global hub.
