Mohamed Babatunde Cole Honored by Fourah Bay College During Bicentennial

Fourah Bay College (FBC) of the University of Sierra Leone has recognized distinguished alumnus Alhaji Dr. Ing. Mohamed Babatunde Cole for his extensive contributions to engineering, industry, philanthropy and national development. The tribute forms part of the college’s Bicentennial Profile Series as it celebrates its 200th anniversary (2027).

Cole graduated from the Fourah Bay College School of Engineering in 1977 with a Division One degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently pursued further training overseas in marketing, operations, enterprise development, risk management, leadership and finance. Over his career he has held senior positions including Managing Director of NP (Sierra Leone) Ltd, Executive Chairman of NP Group Ltd, President of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Board Chairman of Leoneoil Company Ltd, Chairman of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank Sierra Leone, and Director and Chairman of Ecobank Sierra Leone. He is also a Fellow of the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers.

The college highlighted Cole’s long‑standing commitment to education, noting his financial support for countless under‑privileged students and his US$2.5 million donation that funded a new multipurpose engineering building, commissioned by President Julius Maada Bio. The modern facility includes smart classrooms, Wi‑Fi, offices, a canteen and lecture halls, underscoring Cole’s lasting legacy to the nation’s engineering and educational sectors.
