Mohamed Dahlan seeks political comeback via Gaza mediation
Mohamed Dahlan, the former head of Palestinian internal security in Gaza currently living in exile in the United Arab Emirates, is attempting a political comeback by positioning himself as a mediator in Gaza. Dahlan has been involved in efforts to facilitate Hamas's disarmament, reportedly mediating between Jared Kushner and Hamas in Egypt.
His political momentum faced a setback after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a plan regarding Hamas's disarmament. Dahlan has criticized Netanyahu, accusing him of “contempt and deception of the American administration and President Trump's team.”
Dahlan, a long-time rival of President Mahmoud Abbas, has leveraged his connections in the UAE and his business networks to re-emerge as a potential Palestinian leader. While Hamas remains wary of Dahlan due to his past actions during the 2007 Palestinian civil war, he continues to position himself as an active figure capable of achieving results while Abbas remains sidelined.
