Mohamed Mohamoud convicted of preparing terrorist acts
Mohamed Mohamoud, a 22-year-old security guard living in Bristol, has been convicted of preparing acts of terrorism. Following a three-week trial at Winchester Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of violating section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Mohamoud, who was born in Somalia, traveled to his homeland in early 2025 with the intention of joining the terrorist group Daesh (also known as ISIS). He reportedly sought to become a “martyr” and interacted with an artificial intelligence chatbot used by recruiters to filter potential members.
An investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) led to his arrest after authorities examined digital devices. Recovered data included Telegram messages requesting assistance to join the “Mujahedeen” and propaganda videos featuring combat and executions. Prosecutors stated that Mohamoud became radicalized while living in the United Kingdom through extremist content on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok.
