Mohamed Mursal arrives in Baidoa for South West State reconciliation talks
Former Somali Lower House Speaker Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman arrived in Baidoa to lead a delegation aimed at advancing political reconciliation in South West State. The visit follows mounting political and security tensions in the region.
South West State leader Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur Madobe met with the delegation at the presidential palace. Discussions focused on the regional security climate, state-building, and measures to reinforce social unity and cohesion. Both parties emphasized the necessity of resolving political disagreements through dialogue, mutual respect, and negotiated understanding to ensure stability and inclusive development.
The consultations serve as preparation for an upcoming reconciliation forum in Baidoa. This initiative seeks to defuse a standoff involving regional and federal authorities, as well as competing political groups. The efforts come amid concerns regarding the presence of forces loyal to former South West President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen on the outskirts of the city.
