Mohamed Salah joins Trabzonspor, sparking fan frenzy and economic boost

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah signed a two‑year contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor after his Liverpool contract expired. The deal includes a guaranteed €34 million fee, €10 million per season, a €7 million signing bonus and an annual salary of €17 million.

Around 20,000 fans gathered at Trabzon Airport to welcome him, and the club’s combo‑ticket sales jumped from roughly 4,000 to over 10,000, generating about €12‑15 million (≈$15 million) in revenue within days. Merchandise sales and ticket income pushed the club’s cash intake to roughly $15 million.

Former Trabzonspor forward Emre Güral said Salah’s presence will create more scoring chances for Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu. Turkish Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş expressed disappointment that Salah did not join Beşiktaş, though she praised his impact on Turkish football. Salah will live in a 975 sqm luxury villa in Yalıncak equipped with a pool, sauna, gym and cinema.

The transfer has drawn worldwide media attention, with the club’s president Ertuğrul Dogan presenting Salah in a high‑profile ceremony and fans across Turkey and abroad celebrating the move.
