Mohamed Salah to miss top European competitions for first time in 14 years

Mohamed Salah will miss both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League for the first time in 14 years. This follows his new club, Trabzonspor, failing to qualify for the Europa League group stage after a 0-4 loss to Ferencváros in Budapest.

Trabzonspor entered the second leg of the playoff needing a comeback after losing the first leg 0-1 at home. However, the Turkish side struggled significantly, playing with ten men for much of the match after Ruslan Malinovsky received a red card in the 13th minute and Sydney Cabral was sent off in the 57th minute. Salah started the match but was substituted in the 64th minute.

With a 5-0 aggregate score, Ferencváros advanced to the Europa League, while Trabzonspor has been relegated to the UEFA Conference League. This marks the end of a continuous streak for Salah, who has participated in at least one of Europe's top two club competitions every season since moving to Basel in 2012.
