Mohamed Salah turns Turkish plateau rock into tourist attraction
A social media post by Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah has transformed a remote location in Turkey into a major tourist attraction. After the Trabzonspor striker shared photos of himself resting on a rock at the Kürtdere Plateau near Trabzon, thousands of fans began traveling to the site to recreate his pose.
Locals have nicknamed the landmark ‘Salahtası’ (Salah’s Rock), and official signage such as ‘Salah Yaylası’ (Salah Plateau) has been installed to guide visitors. The sudden influx of tourists has created long queues of fans and prompted local content creators to share routes to the site. While the phenomenon has boosted regional interest, some residents have expressed concerns regarding environmental impact and litter.
The craze follows Salah’s successful transition to the Turkish league, highlighted by a recent hat-trick and an assist in a 4-0 victory for Trabzonspor against Galatasaray.
