Mohamed VI International Athletics Meeting draws world stars to Rabat
The 17th edition of the Mohamed VI International Athletics Meeting opened at Rabat’s new Olympic Stadium, with Crown Prince Moulay Hassan presiding over the ceremony. The event, part of the Diamond League circuit, featured elite athletes from roughly 40 nations, including Olympic and world champions such as Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, USA’s Quincy Hall and Britain's Matt Hector‑Smith. Moroccan officials, including Minister of Education and Sports Mohamed Saeed Barada and Royal Athletics Federation president Abdel Slam Akhizoune, highlighted the competition’s strong field and the potential for new records.
Organised jointly by the Ministry of Education and Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Royal Athletics Federation, the meeting underscored Morocco’s role as the sole African host of a Diamond League stop, promoting the country’s sporting infrastructure and international profile.
