Mohamed Wazir sentenced to prison in Haifa Wehbe money laundering case
An Egyptian economic court has sentenced Mohamed Wazir, the former manager of singer Haifa Wehbe, to three years in prison and imposed a fine of 16 million Egyptian pounds for money laundering.
The case stems from allegations that Wazir exploited official powers of attorney to misappropriate funds from Wehbe’s bank accounts. Investigations revealed that he transferred substantial sums, including over 9 million Egyptian pounds and 800,000 US dollars, into his personal accounts. These transfers were reportedly conducted through the banking system in an attempt to conceal the source of the funds.
Previously, Wazir faced charges of embezzlement and fraud. While an initial ruling sentenced him to three years for these crimes, an appeal modified the sentence to two years for embezzlement after he was acquitted of fraud. The current money laundering proceedings follow a court order to involve Ministry of Justice experts to audit the defendant's assets and determine the full extent of the illicitly obtained wealth.
