Mohammad Amir gains British citizenship, leaves IPL future undecided

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has become a British citizen through his wife, Narjis Khan. The change allows him to play as a domestic player for the Trent Rockets in England’s The Hundred and to register as an overseas player for the 2027 Pakistan Super League.

Amir said he has not yet decided whether to enter the Indian Premier League in 2027, noting, "I will play in the PSL in 2027 as an overseas player. As for the IPL, I don't know yet whether I will participate." His new passport also means he could bypass the BCCI’s ban on Pakistani players, similar to the earlier case of Azhar Mahmood. The Pakistan Cricket Board has not clarified how his status will affect his retention by Rawalpindi.

Amir retired from international cricket in December 2024 after a career that included 271 wickets and a T20 World Cup win in 2009. He is now focusing on franchise cricket in the UK and Pakistan while keeping his IPL options open.
