Qalibaf addresses Iran's housing crisis and land distribution
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, addressed the nation's housing challenges during a parliamentary session. He emphasized that housing is a critical component of the household economic basket and carries significant social, cultural, and security implications.
Qalibaf suggested that the government should focus on providing land to newly married young couples to alleviate the housing crisis. He noted that the current economic situation makes it difficult for workers, retirees, and young families to afford housing, citing the massive price increases seen over the last decade.
Furthermore, the Speaker argued that the housing problem will not be resolved as long as the government continues to act as a direct developer in the housing sector. He called for increased cooperation between the Parliament and the government to implement existing laws, such as the Seventh Development Plan and the Housing Production Leap Law, to facilitate land use changes and development.
