Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocks rising U.S. Treasury yields

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, has mocked the recent surge in U.S. 10-year Treasury bond yields, which recently exceeded 5.1%, reaching levels not seen since 2007.

In a social media post, Ghalibaf suggested that the United States would face even more severe economic difficulties within the next two years. He used rhetorical language to claim that the U.S. would be forced back into an economic atmosphere reminiscent of the 1970s, characterized by high interest rates, expensive gasoline, and diesel shortages.

The rise in bond yields occurs amid growing inflationary concerns and market speculation regarding potential interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Increased yields typically lead to higher costs for mortgages, auto loans, and business credit.
