Mohammad Hatta and Sutan Sjahrir Exile House Museum revitalized in Sukabumi

Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has inaugurated the revitalized Mohammad Hatta and Sutan Sjahrir Exile House Museum in Sukabumi, West Java. The facility preserves the site where the two prominent independence figures were held as political prisoners in February 1942 after being moved from Banda Neira.

The revitalization project aims to transform the museum from a mere storage site for historical collections into a living educational space. The Ministry of Culture intends for the museum to serve as a hub for literacy, research, archiving, and creative activities, encouraging the younger generation to engage with the history of Indonesia’s struggle for independence.

Through this initiative, the government seeks to strengthen museum infrastructure and digitalize collections to increase public access. The goal is to provide a space where visitors can learn from the resilience and intellectual contributions of Hatta and Sjahrir during their period of colonial surveillance.
