The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested 19-year-old Mohammad Nabil in Azamgarh for his alleged links to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Investigators state Nabil used social media and encrypted WhatsApp groups, such as ‘La Ghalib – Illallah’ and ‘Flames of War’, to radicalize youth and recruit ‘mujahids’.

Nabil allegedly used coded language to discuss extremist activities, using terms like ‘trip’, ‘pen’, ‘juice’, and ‘project’ to refer to jihad, knives, chemicals, and operational plans. The ATS reported that Nabil shared extremist literature, including Anwar al-Awlaki’s ‘44 Ways of Jihad’ and works by former AQIS leader Maulana Asim Umar.

Authorities claim Nabil was involved in planning a ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ operation in coordination with Pakistan. His digital communications indicated plans to travel to Pakistan, Turkey, and Bangladesh for terrorist training and bomb-making. The investigation revealed his networks included individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Saudi Arabia.
