Mohammad Rizwan under NCCIA probe for betting allegations
Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan is under investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding allegations of online betting, gambling, and potential information leaks from the dressing room during a recent tour of England.
Investigators have seized mobile phones from both Rizwan and teammate Imam-ul-Haq. While Imam-ul-Haq is reportedly cooperating and has begun the forensic examination process, sources indicate that Rizwan’s investigation has faced delays due to alleged non-cooperation. The NCCIA has expressed a desire to conduct the forensic analysis of Rizwan’s device in his presence to prevent data loss that might occur if automated tools are used to bypass security locks.
Legal and professional consequences have already emerged. Rizwan has been restricted from domestic cricket, including the President’s Trophy Grade-I competition, and has reportedly been prevented from speaking to the media. Rizwan challenged the investigation in the Lahore High Court, which allowed the inquiry to proceed while directing authorities not to harass him. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that the matter is being handled under its internal regulations, though no formal charges or findings of wrongdoing have been announced.
