Mohammed Al-Faqmi appointed Yemen Minister of Planning
Yemeni President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, has issued a presidential decree appointing veteran diplomat Mohammed Abdullah Ahmed Al-Faqmi as the new Minister of Planning and International Cooperation. Al-Faqmi succeeds Afrah Al-Zouba, who transitioned to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in July.
Al-Faqmi brings over three decades of diplomatic experience to the role. His career includes serving in various capacities within the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representing Yemen at the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva between 2012 and 2024. He holds a degree in political science from Leipzig University in Germany.
The appointment is considered strategic as the Yemeni government relies heavily on international support to address ongoing economic and humanitarian crises. The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation plays a critical role in coordinating with global donors.
