Mohammed bin Rashid emphasizes teacher importance in AI era

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a message to educators regarding the evolving role of teachers in the age of artificial intelligence. The message is featured in ‘The Letters’, part of the second volume of his book ‘Lessons From Life’, which compiles reflections from six decades of public service.

Addressing the potential impact of AI on education, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that while technology can provide instant information, it cannot replace the fundamental mission of teachers to shape character, values, and human judgment. He noted that education involves more than just imparting knowledge; it is about developing decision-making skills and establishing the moral and social frameworks that guide individuals.

He suggested that as machines become more capable, the role of the teacher must evolve from a transmitter of knowledge to a guide. In this new capacity, educators will help students navigate information, distinguish truth from falsehood, and learn how to use knowledge to create value for humanity. He highlighted that teachers remain essential for instilling human skills such as empathy, cooperation, and communication.
