Mohamed Chouki defends Moroccan social reforms and pension updates

Mohamed Chouki, president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), has defended the Moroccan government’s social record and addressed the status of pension reform. Speaking at the Lafqui Tetouani Foundation, Chouki emphasized that pension reform is a major technical project aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of funds while protecting beneficiary rights. He noted that recent public sector salary increases have improved the financial outlook for the Moroccan Pension Fund, providing more room to study an optimal reform model.

Chouki denied that delays in the reform process are due to electoral calculations or political costs, asserting instead that the issue requires a deep, comprehensive approach. He also highlighted other government achievements, including the expansion of medical coverage, direct social assistance, and the implementation of the investment charter. While acknowledging that the cost of living remains a challenge, he pointed to measures such as VAT reductions on essential goods and support for the transport sector as efforts to protect citizens' purchasing power.
