Mohammed Oujar calls for amnesty for Moroccan detainees
Mohammed Oujar, a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) political bureau, has called for a “large amnesty” to resolve the cases of detainees from the Rif movement and the ‘Gen Z’ protests. Oujar stated that Morocco has reached a level of political and human rights maturity that allows for such a move, which would align with the country's human rights achievements and preserve national dignity.
During an electoral meeting in Taroudant, Oujar also defended the current government's performance under Aziz Akhannouch. Addressing controversies regarding the expenditure of 280 billion dirhams, he argued that these funds were not lost but were essential investments in supporting Moroccan citizens and implementing the “social state” project. He emphasized that completing the social protection and support systems requires continuity and a new government mandate.
Furthermore, Oujar advocated for expanding accountability to include both elected and appointed officials, including territorial administration and ministry staff. He stressed that the upcoming government must establish a clear legal framework to link responsibility with accountability while ensuring the presumption of innocence and the dignity of officials.
