Mohammed Shami at the centre of India's ODI bowling selection debate

India's fast‑bowling options for upcoming One Day Internationals remain limited as veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has not been recalled since the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. Despite a strong domestic season – 37 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, 15 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 12 in the IPL – selectors have continued to favour newer faces amid injuries to Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and other all‑rounders.

Shami, who has been a key part of India's test success, said in an interview that the current pace unit thrives on mutual support and shared confidence, noting that the bowlers lift each other's spirits when one is struggling. The statements come as India prepares for a series of ODIs against England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
