Mohammed Shami takes 4/30 in Ranji Trophy opener amid India comeback talks
Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami delivered a standout performance for Bengal in their Ranji Trophy opener against Delhi, taking 4/30 in 17.3 overs. His spell included nine maidens and helped bowl Delhi out for 240.
Shami’s performance comes amid ongoing discussions regarding his absence from the Indian national squad. Following the recent recall of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the T20I squad for the New Zealand tour, Shami expressed a defiant stance toward the BCCI selectors. He stated that while he welcomes Kumar’s selection, his own focus remains on his domestic performance, adding, “If I don’t get the chance to play for India again, it’s not my loss.”
Former Indian batter Suresh Raina has expressed confidence in a potential comeback for Shami, noting his strong domestic form and fitness. Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup, has been playing domestic cricket to prove his readiness for international selection.
