Mohammedia education unions launch escalating protests

In Mohammedia, Morocco, a coalition of four major education unions has launched a series of escalating protests against the regional education directorate. The movement, which includes the National Union of Education (UMT), the Free University of Education (UGTM), the National Union of Education (FNE), and the National Union of Education (FDT), began with a protest and partial warning sit-in on October 5, 2026.

Following the initial action, the coalition announced a second partial warning sit-in on October 7, 2026, held within the provincial directorate. The unions are demanding the resolution of long-standing educational files and are protesting what they describe as mismanagement, favoritism, and a lack of transparency in the region's educational administration.

Union leaders have criticized the regional director for perceived incompetence and procrastination. They also accused the directorate of attempting to obstruct protests by closing the doors of the public facility. The coordinated actions aim to address issues affecting the rights of educators and the smooth operation of educational institutions.
