Mohács Battle 500th anniversary commemorations begin
As the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács approaches, various commemorative activities are taking place in Hungary. Tradition-preserving communities are organizing pilgrimages to honor the historical event. For a decade, horse-mounted pilgrims have traveled to Dunaújváros, and the program has recently expanded to include participants arriving by boat.
Historical accounts of the battle highlight the strategic failures and the heavy toll on the Hungarian forces. The conflict resulted in the deaths of approximately 20,000 Hungarian soldiers, including King Louis II. Chroniclers such as István Brodarics have provided detailed records of the military movements and the internal debates among the nobility that preceded the engagement.
