Mohd Azizulhasni Awang targets sixth Olympic appearance in LA2028
Malaysian track cyclist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has expressed his intention to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The 38-year-old athlete stated that his primary goal is to solidify his legacy and achieve a meaningful conclusion to his career, rather than focusing solely on winning gold medals or addressing past disappointments.
Azizulhasni explained that his decision to return to competition followed a sense of unfinished business after the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he felt unable to fully demonstrate his true performance capabilities. He is currently adopting a step-by-step approach, prioritizing the qualification process for LA2028.
Despite the absence of national head coach John Beasley, who is currently based in Japan, Azizulhasni has been managing his own training programs in Melbourne following a previous heart surgery. He noted that while he has been self-managing, a full Olympic campaign requires more than individual effort.
