Mohelnice prehistoric archaeological finds exhibited in Olomouc
The Vlastivědné muzeum v Olomouci (VMO) is hosting an exhibition titled ‘Mohelnice: The Story of an Archaeological Site,’ showcasing significant prehistoric finds from the Mohelnice region in Moravia. The collection includes discoveries from research conducted between the 1950s and 1970s by the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, some of which have only recently been fully processed.
Key artifacts on display include Neolithic dwellings, prehistoric wells, a Celtic ship, and a miniature vessel with unique engraved ornaments. The exhibition highlights the region's importance in understanding long-term human settlement, economy, water management, and river transport.
The exhibition is accompanied by the inaugural ‘Archeofest’ festival, which features activities such as Celtic food preparation, the creation of prehistoric glass bead replicas, and demonstrations of bronze artifact production and copper smelting. The festival also includes access to archaeological laboratories at Palacký University and a series of lectures on research findings.
