Mohsen Amiriousfai to premiere unauthorized film in London
Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Amiriousfai has produced a new film titled ‘Curse of Prohibition’ without official permits. The project, which Amiriousfai wrote, directed, and produced, is described as a grotesque black comedy that explores social and political transformations in Iran, spanning from the 1979 Revolution to events in early 2026.
The film is set to make its world premiere at the 70th London Film Festival in the ‘Laugh’ section. The festival is scheduled to take place from October 7 to October 18.
Amiriousfai has a history of facing censorship and film bans in Iran. His debut feature, ‘Bitter Sleep’, gained international recognition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 after facing long-term bans at home. Other works, such as ‘Firecracker’ and ‘Lovely Trash’, have also faced prohibitions.
