Mohsen Namjoo returns to Iran after two decades abroad

Iranian singer and composer Mohsen Namjoo has returned to Iran after approximately two decades of living abroad. In a recent video addressing the public, Namjoo explained that he made the decision to return several months ago but chose to arrive without prior announcement to avoid being dissuaded by others.

Namjoo reported receiving a warm welcome from various people in Tehran, ranging from theater-goers to motorcycle couriers. He addressed criticisms regarding his return, stating that his primary motivation is to see his homeland and family. He rejected claims that his return is linked to recent political upheavals, questioning why he should be held responsible for the lives of others when his intent is personal.

In his response to online backlash, Namjoo noted that the ‘real people of Iran are not the abusers of cyberspace.’
