Chabahar land allocation for Afghan investment clarified

Mohsen Zanganeh, head of Iran's Special Commission for Production Support, has clarified that an agreement to allocate approximately 110 hectares of land in the Chabahar region to Afghanistan is for investment purposes rather than a transfer of sovereignty.

The arrangement involves 10 hectares near the Chabahar Port waters and roughly 100 hectares within the Special Economic Zone. The goal is to allow Afghan investors to develop transit infrastructure, such as dry ports, to facilitate access to open waters for Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.

Zanganeh addressed public concerns following comments where he used the phrase “a land belonging to itself” to describe the investment area. He emphasized that the initiative follows a memorandum of understanding intended to boost regional trade and that the land is being provided for long-term economic use, similar to models used in international ports.
