Mohsin Naqvi announces governance system reset in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced plans to reset the country’s governance system to improve administrative efficiency and economic performance. Speaking at an event organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Naqvi stated that the current system is undergoing a reset and called for the support of the business community to facilitate this transition.
Naqvi identified certain federal institutions and the bureaucracy as hurdles to effective public service delivery. He advocated for a shift away from import dependency toward domestic manufacturing and export-led growth, emphasizing that increasing exports is the primary solution to the nation’s financial challenges. He noted that every dollar of export revenue is vital to the country’s stability.
The announcement revives a political debate regarding the restructuring of the country’s administrative setup, including the potential creation of new provinces to better deliver justice and opportunities for the youth. While Naqvi has previously suggested that the existing governance model has collapsed, provincial leaders have expressed openness to discussing decentralization while distancing themselves from specific provincial restructuring plans.
