Mohsin Naqvi claims political leader upset over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor's rule

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that an unnamed political party leader is “deeply upset” after being denied the governorship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or a role in the province's new administrative setup. Naqvi alleged that the politician has historically relied on the establishment for political survival, even claiming the establishment previously arranged air tickets for the leader's party.

The comments follow the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by President Asif Ali Zardari, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The move, taken under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution due to law-and-order concerns, has sidelined the PTI-led provincial government.

Under this new arrangement, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi will perform provincial government functions with the assistance of an 11-member advisory council, while Parliament will exercise the legislative powers of the provincial assembly. Naqvi also criticized leaders for their recent interest in the resource allocation of former FATA districts, questioning why they remained silent on the matter for several years.
