Mohsin Naqvi’s ACC presidency likely to end in April 2027
Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure as president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to conclude on April 2, 2027. Despite provisions in the ACC constitution that allow for term extensions, Naqvi faces significant opposition from the Executive Board.
Reports indicate that at least three, and potentially four, of the five Full Member countries—India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan—are unlikely to support an extension. The ACC presidency operates on a rotation system among full members, and Bangladesh is next in line to assume the role. Tamim Iqbal, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is reportedly interested in taking over the presidency.
An extension would require unanimous agreement from the Executive Board, a threshold that appears unattainable given the current political climate. Tensions within the council have been highlighted by recent incidents where Indian men’s and women’s teams declined to accept trophies from Naqvi.
