Former Australian international all-rounder Moises Henriques has been appointed captain of the Portugal men’s cricket team. The 39-year-old, who was born in Madeira, will lead the squad in their bid to qualify for the 2028 T20 World Cup.

Portugal will begin their campaign in the T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier C in Finland, scheduled from August 14 to 21. Competing in Group B, Portugal is set to face Israel, Germany, Greece, and Czechia. The team aims to win their group to advance to the European regional final against Scotland, Jersey, and Denmark.

Henriques, who earned 44 international caps for Australia across Test, ODI, and T20I formats, recently retired from Australian domestic cricket but continues to play overseas. He succeeds Carlos Nunes as captain, though Nunes remains part of the 14-member squad. Other notable inclusions in the squad include former wicketkeeper-batter Craig Cachopa.
