Minecraft announces The Sift, its first new dimension in 14 years

Mojang has announced ‘The Sift’, the first new dimension for Minecraft in over 14 years. Described as a vibrant and beautiful world, it will join the existing Overworld, Nether, and End dimensions. The new realm features distinct landscapes such as Meadow and Carapace, characterized by bright pink grass and turquoise skies, offering a visual contrast to the Nether.

The dimension will debut first in the spin-off title Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29, 2026. For the main Minecraft game, The Sift is scheduled to arrive in both Java and Bedrock editions during 2027. Additionally, Mojang confirmed that a native version for Nintendo Switch 2 is expected on October 27, 2026.

In related updates, Mojang is testing a new ‘Ice Caves’ biome in Bedrock previews. This update includes hanging icicles, glowing ice crystals, and a new hostile zombie variant known as the ‘Frostbite’ that can apply a freezing effect to players.
