Mojkovac Mayor Vesko Delić remains in office amid ministry oversight

The Ministry of Public Administration in Montenegro has continued its oversight of the Mojkovac Municipal Assembly to determine if the local parliament has followed recommendations to terminate the mandate of Mayor Vesko Delić.

Delić was found guilty of extended abuse of official position by the High Court in Podgorica, a verdict later confirmed by the Court of Appeals. The conviction stems from his 2022 decision to appoint heads of the Municipal Police and the Protection and Rescue Service without a public competition and despite knowing the candidates did not meet legal requirements.

The Ministry previously assessed that Delić’s mandate ended by operation of law following his conditional sentence. It recommended that the Municipal Assembly formally record the termination of his mandate, appoint a deputy to serve temporarily, and elect a new mayor within 30 days. Currently, the head of the Municipal Assembly, Marko Janketić, has only moved to request the official court verdict, while Delić remains in office.
